SHARK WARRIOR BRACELETS

10 BRACELETS PER PACK

SHARK FINNING happens EVERY DAY in SOUTH AFRICAN WATERS!

Each bracelet represents HOPE for our sharks, our oceans and ourselves. Our oceans are our LIFE SUPPORT system. When the sharks die, our oceans die. When our oceans die, we die.

Because sharks are top predators they keep the oceans healthy and alive. We NEED our sharks – ALIVE! At the rate they are being killed many sharks species will become EXTINCT in our lifetime.

ONLY 3 OUT OF 100 different shark species in South Africa have protection – all others are KILLED DAILY. Proceeds from each bracelet go to AfriOceans Conservation Alliance, an organization LEADING shark conservation in South Africa.

Proceeds also go the AFRIOCEANS WARRIORS children who HAND MAKE each bracelet as part of an environmental education initiative named HANDS UP FOR SHARKS! and a community upliftment project involving thousands of South Africa’s children.

Background
There’s always a reason for everything and the SHARK WARRIOR BRACELET PROJECT has very special meaning: AfriOceans is currently running the largest marine focused environmental education programme in the country involving thousands of children. This unique programme is called the AfriOceans Warriors and consists of AfriOceans Warrior Tribes (clubs) at different schools and is funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund of South Africa.

While the Programme teaches the youth about the oceans and the importance of saving them, we have identified that many of the children we are working with are fighting for survival themselves: not only is there lack of food on the table but there is widespread social breakdown through increasing gangsterism, drug abuse and poverty, all of which are pulling the kids in the wrong direction. We recognize that we cannot honestly hope to teach people to care about the environment when they are fighting for survival themselves.

This is where the bracelet comes in, which is inspired by many other African bracelets made for different causes such as HIV Aids. By showing our AfriOceans Warriors how to make the bracelets, we open up a world of possibilities for them and encourage skills development, entrepreneurship and promote self-funding and sustainability.

A portion of the proceeds goes to AfriOceans Shark Conservation Projects, while the children earn something for each bracelet they make. The more bracelets made by Tribe members, the more opportunities they can create for themselves, such as garden tools, sports goods, solar goods, transport costs for excursions, visits, camps, etc.

The SHARK WARRIOR BRACELET PROJECT is making a huge difference to the lives of the children we work with, helping them to develop skills and financial reward while at the same time making a difference for our sharks and our oceans.
